The Small Stuff

 "Don't sweat the small stuff."

More often than not it’s the "small things" in life that have the greatest impact.

"It's the little things that are vital.  Little things make big things happen."

                                                                                                -John Wooden

Small things that had a great impact...

  • Moses' staff - Ex. 14:16

  • donkey's jawbone - Judg. 15:15

  • small stone - 1 Sam. 17:40

  • flour and oil - 1 Kin. 17:12

  • cloud - 1 Kin. 18:44

  • mustard seed - Mt. 13:32

  • two mites - Lk. 21:2

  • five loaves/two fish - Jn. 6:9

  • alabaster box - Lk. 26:7

  • crown of thorns/three nails

  • foxes - Song. 2:15

  • leaven - Gal. 5:9

Luke 16:10 [NASB], "He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much..."

Luke 19:17 [NLT], "Well done!" the king exclaimed. 'You are a good servant.  You have been faithful with the little entrusted to you, so you will be governor of ten cities as your reward.' "

Nothing ever happens in our lives without the "small things" being attached to it.

Acts 2:42-47 [TPT], “Every believer was faithfully devoted to following the teachings of the apostles.  Their hearts were mutually linked to one another, sharing communion and coming together regularly for prayer. 43 A deep sense of holy awe swept over everyone, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 All the believers were in fellowship as one body, and they shared with one another whatever they had. 45 Out of generosity they even sold their assets to distribute the proceeds to those who were in need among them. 46 Daily they met together in the temple courts and in one another's homes to celebrate communion.  They shared meals together with joyful hearts and tender humility. 47 They were continually filled with praises to God, enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were coming to life [saved].”

There's this underlining thought in the church today, where churches feel like they have to choose either Revival or Community.

Community

  • devoted to discipleship

  • fellowshipping with one another

  • sharing communion

  • praying together

  • unity

  • joyful humility

  • generosity

  • serving one another

  • attending service in the temple

  • eating in each other’s homes

  • worshiping together

Revival

  • holy awe / fear swept over them

  • powerful presence

  • signs and wonders [gifts]

  • salvations daily

They did life together and invited God to be an active part of it.

They didn't consider either category the "Small Stuff."

They overestimate an event, and underestimate the process [small things].

"It's the little things that are vital.  Little things make big things happen."
