God wants us to live righteous because He desires to protect us.

“The moment we put our faith in Jesus, we were not only made righteous before God, but we were also positioned to live under the blessing of righteousness.”

“God expects us to live according to the divine nature that He has deposited on the inside of us.” 

“God is not defined by the term ‘righteous,’ as much as the term ‘righteous’ is defined by God.  He is not measured by the standard of righteousness; He sets the standard of righteousness.” 

The way to cut off or avoid a major or macro sin, is to continually address the micro sins.
