The Summit

by guest speaker Pastor Tommy Faulk

Summit moments are:

  • Exhilarating

  • Satisfying

  • Naturally desired

We naturally look to mountains for strength.

1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?

(Psalm 121:1 NLT)

In Christ, we are shown that UP is where we find our help.

1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!

(Psalm 121:1-2 NLT)

When we summit, on top of the world, we can feel invincible.

We must remember this: The higher we go, the MORE help we need.

12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.

(1 Corinthians 10:12 NLT)

We must not let the thrill of victory cloud our judgment.

In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites. They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem.

(2 Samuel 11:1 NLT)

We cannot remain on the Summit permanently. There’s NOTHING there!

All you have on The Summit is what you brought with you. Provision for the future is not found on the Summit. It’s found in the valley below.

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.

2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.

3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

(Psalm 23 NLT)

Victories are achieved when we reach the top but the lessons are learned when you make it back down and can help others do the same.

17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

(1 John 2:17 NLT)

Mountain top moments are fleeting. What God gives us THROUGH them is what lasts.
