The Heart of a Disciple - Part 4
“The Heart of a Disciple” part 4
Mark 10:45 [NKJV], For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Matthew 8:14-15 [NKJV], Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.
Romans 5:6 [NLT], When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
Matthew 8:15 [NKJV], So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.
Acts 9:3-6 [NKJV], As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” 5 And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” 6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
Matthew 8:15, So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them.
Matthew 14:13-21 [NLT], As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. 14 Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 That evening the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them.” 17 “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered. 18 “Bring them here,” he said. 19 Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. 20 They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers. 21 About 5,000 men were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children!
John 13:3-15 [NLT], Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. 6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” 8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” 9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!” 10 Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, “Not all of you are clean.” 12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow.
“Servant leaders do not always wind up in the corner office or at the head of the parade. In fact, servant leaders sometimes find themselves nailed to a cross. That, of course, is the example Jesus set, so it is the example we must follow. The greatest leader who ever lived took his towel and basin and stooped to wash the feet of eleven followers and one traitor. Through His example of servanthood, a world was transformed.” -Pat Williams
Matthew 25:40 [NLT], “I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!”
John 13:17 [ESV], If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
