“An agreement between God and His people in which He has made binding promises

based off of His unconditional love.”

•   The Covenant Seal

•   The scars [covenant seal] served as a physical representation that a covenant union and friendship had taken place.

•   Through the new covenant we do not merely take on Jesus’ name, but the Holy Spirit actually joins us to Jesus by making us one.

John 14:23 [NLT], Jesus replied, “All who love Me will do what I say.  My Father will love them, and We will come and make Our home with each of them.

Ephesians 5:31-32 [NASB], For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.

Romans 8:15-17 [NKJV], For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs [joint participant] with Christ….

Ephesians 6:10-13 [NLT], A final word:  Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.

Matthew 6:8-11 [NLT], …“for your Father [already] knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him! 9 Pray like this:  9 Our Father in heaven, may Your name be kept holy. 10 May Your Kingdom come soon.  May Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need…

Hebrews 4:16 [NKJV], Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

•   A covenant relationship must go in both directions.  Just as must as we desire to receive from the Lord, we must be willing to give to the Lord.

•   To call upon the Name, is to call upon the covenant Maker and all of His promises.

Romans 10:13 [NKJV], “…those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Isaiah 49:16 [AMP], “Indeed, I have inscribed [a picture of] you on the palms of My hands…”

“When we are ‘joined’ with Christ in the New Covenant, He does more than come alongside of us, He makes His ‘home in us’…by doing so the Eternal Godhead becomes our Father, brother, lover, teacher, guide and even our faithful FRIEND.”

•   From this position of friendship He begins to share His ways, thoughts, creative ideas, strategy, vision and heart with us.

Proverbs 18:24 [TPT ], Some friendships don’t last for long, but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other!

John 15:13-16 [NLT], There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves.  Now you are My friends, since I have told you everything the Father told Me. 16 You didn’t choose Me.  I chose you.  I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using My name.  <—Jesus was not only telling them what He was about to do for them through His death on the cross, but He was also declaring to them that He saw them as His covenant—friends.
