Healing: Part 2

Five misconceptions concerning healing…

1.  God uses sickness to discipline [teach] His children.

2.  Sickness and disease are a part of God’s will for our lives.

3.  God used to heal, but He stopped once the Bible was written.

4.  If I’ve never witnessed a healing then it can’t be true.

5.  If someone is sick then they must have hidden [secret] sin in their life.

“Biblically speaking there is no evidence that God is the originator or the giver of sickness and disease.  On the contrary, He is a good and loving Father who through the death of His Son has provided a way for us to be healed of any and all sickness and disease.”

Where does sickness come from?

  • Every challenge we face in this life is a symptom of the Fall of man.

  • Every health problem we struggle with is a direct result of the Fall’s impact on our physical bodies.

The Good News is:  “When Jesus Christ died for our sins, He purchased [by His blood] the right for us to live our lives under God’s blessing instead of the curse of the Fall.”

Galatians 3:13-14 [NIV], Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written:  “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Galatians 3:13-14 [TPT], Yet, Christ paid the full price to set us free from the curse of the law.  He absorbed the curse completely as He became a curse in our place.  For it is written:  “Everyone who is hung upon a tree is cursed.” 14 Jesus Christ dissolved the curse from our lives, so that in Him all the blessings of Abraham can be poured out upon gentiles.  And now through faith we receive the promised Holy Spirit who lives in us.

  • Jesus absorbed and dissolved every negate effect of the curse for us through His death on the Cross. This is called: The Atonement.

  • Those two curses are SIN and SICKNESS.

“When Christ redeemed us, He did more than save us from our sins.  He also purchased our physical healing, emotional healing, and deliverance from all demonic influences.”

Isaiah 53:1-5 [NIV], Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.  He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.  Like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem. 4 Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced for our transgressions [sin], He was crushed for our iniquities [sin], the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed [sickness].

1 Peter 2:24 [AMP], He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross [willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice], so that we might die to sin [becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin] and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you [who believe] have been healed.

Matthew 8:16-17 [AMP], When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons; and He cast out the evil spirits with a word, and restored to health all who were sick [exhibiting His authority as Messiah], 17 so that He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:  “He Himself took our infirmities [upon Himself] and carried away our diseases.”

Matthew 9:35 [NKJV], Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Psalm 103:1-3 [NKJV], Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities [sins], Who heals all your diseases [sickness]…

He bore it ALL on Calvary’s cross.

“Salvation from sin and healing from sickness are both covenant blessings [benefits] that came from the same atonement, which was provided by one sacrifice, by one substitute, whose name is JESUS CHRIST.”

Mark 2:1-12 [NLT], When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that He was back home. 2 Soon the house where He was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door.  While He was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above His head.  Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” 6 But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, 7 “What is He saying?  This is blasphemy!  Only God can forgive sins!” 8 Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so He asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? 9 Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk?” 10 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.”  Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, 11 “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” 12 And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers.  They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!”

How do we receive our healing?

James 5:13-15 [NLT], Are any of you suffering hardships?  You should pray.  Are any of you happy?  You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick?  You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name fo the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith [the prayer of faith] will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well.  And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.  <—There is the Full Plan of Redemption and atonement again…but notice it must be accessed and required by FAITH.

What about the person who doesn’t get healed?

1 Corinthians 13:12 [NLT], Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.  All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

Deuteronomy 29:29 [NIV], The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.

Isaiah 55:8-9 [NLT], “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.  “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

2 Timothy 4:18 [NLT], Yes, and the Lord will deliver [rescue] me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into His heavenly Kingdom.  All glory to God forever and ever!  Amen.
