Decisions: I Will Have a Decided Heart

Decision #1 — “I will take responsibility.”

Decision #2 — “I will seek wisdom.”

Decision #3 — “I will be a person of action.

Luke 9:57-62 (ESV) As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.”  But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead.  But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 10:1-2 (ESV) After this the Lord appointed seventy—two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2 And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Decide — “To make up one’s mind, to reach a decision, to end a contest by giving one side victory.”

  • “The bringing to an end of wavering between different opinions by making up one’s mind as to which course of action to take — which brings about a resolve to carry through.”

Joshua 24:15 (NLT) But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve.  Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates?  Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live?  But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

1 Kings 18:21 (AMP) Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you hesitate {waver, falter} between two opinions?  If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NASB) Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfecter of the faith…

Decision #4 — “I will have a decided heart.”

1.  A clarity of vision

Proverbs 29:18 (NASB) Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained…

2.  The ability to look ahead

Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT) No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing:  Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

3.  A willingness to be different

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) For we are God’s masterpiece.  He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

“Truth is truth.  If a thousand people believe something foolish, it is still foolish!  Truth is never dependent upon consensus of opinion.  I have found that it is better to be alone and acting upon the truth in my heart than to follow a gaggle of silly geese doomed to mediocrity.”  —Andy Andrews

4.  To stop overthinking

“Take time to be deliberate, but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in!”  —Andrew Jackson

5.  An unwillingness to quit

Jeremiah 20:9 (NIV) But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak any more in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.  I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.

6.  A willingness to go all in
