Rest and Reset

Reset “to bring back to zero.”

Hard Reset — the restoration of the device to the condition it was in when it left the factory.  All settings, applications, and data added by the user are removed.

Matthew 4:16 (NLT) the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.  And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.

John 8:12 (NLT) “I am the light of the world.  If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

  • The Christmas season is a reminder of the greatest reset the world has ever known.

Galatians 4:4-6 (NLT) But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

1.  He reset the religious system

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you.  Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT) “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important:  ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Matthew 21:12-15 (NLT) Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all of the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice.  He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. 13 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!” 14 The blind and the lame came to him in the Temple, and he healed them. 15 The leading priest and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles and heard even the children in the Temple shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David.”

2.  He reset the view of God

Exodus 33:19 (NLT) The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you.  For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.”

John 14:7-11 (NLT) “If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.  From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am?  Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!  So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?  The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.  Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

3.  He reset the hearts of men

John 3:16-17 (NLT) “For this is how God loved the world:  He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”

Ezekiel 36:26 (NLT) And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you.  I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my ways.

Isaiah 54:11 (GW) You suffering, comfortless, storm-ravaged city!  I will rebuild your city with precious stones.  I will reset your foundations with sapphires.

God, how do you want to reset the foundation of my heart [head, hands, home, holiness, & hustle]?

1.  Reset my heart

2.  Reset my head

3.  Reset my hands

4.  Reset my home

5.  Reset my holiness

6.  Reset my hustle
