1 Samuel 21:10-15 (AMP) Then David arose and fled from Saul that day, and went to Achish king of Gath. 11 The servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David the king of the land?  Did they not sing in praise of this one as they danced, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?’ 12 David took these words to heart and was greatly afraid of Achish king of Gath. 13 So [fearing for his life] he changed his behavior in their sight, and acted insanely in their hands, and he scribbled on the doors of the gate, and drooled on his beard. 14 Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see that the man is insane.  Why have you brought him to me? 15 Do I lack madmen, that you bring this one to behave like a madman in my presence?  Shall this one come into my house?”

Fear [phobia] "that which causes flight, to run away, to flee or to escape.”

1.  By admitting we are afraid

2.  By admitting the emotion is a symptom of a deeper issue

3.  By choosing faith over fear

“Faith and fear both demand you believe in something you cannot see.  You choose.”  —Bob Proctor

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

1.  Power

John 8:44 (AMP) He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths.

Numbers 13:31-33 (NKJV) But the men who had gone up…said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” 32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report…saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33 There we saw the giants…and we were like grasshoppers…”

  • No one can conquer fear in their own strength.

Psalm 56:3-4 (ESV) When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.  What can flesh do to me?

Psalm 16:8 (ESV) I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Psalm 73:26 (NKJV) My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength [rock] of my heart…forever.

2.  Love

1 John 4:16-18 (ESV) So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.  God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid…for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Psalm 23:4 (ESV) Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me…

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) Do not fear, for I am with you…

3.  Sound Mind

Sound Mind — “safe thinking.”  It describes a person who has good judgment, disciplined thought patterns, and the ability to understand and make the right decisions.

1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

Psalm 94:19 (NASB) When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.
