John 14:6 (NLT) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through Me.”

John 13:31 (NLT) “The time has come for the Son of Man to enter into His glory, and God will be glorified because of Him.”

John 13:33-38 (NLT) Dear children, I will be with you only a little longer…you will search for Me, but you can’t come where I am going. 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment:  Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.” 36 Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?” And Jesus replied, “You can’t go with Me now, but you will follow Me later.” 37 “But why can’t I come now, Lord?” he asked.  “I’m ready to die for you.” 38 Jesus answered, “Die for Me?”  I tell you the truth, Peter—before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know Me.”

John 14:1-3 (NLT) “Don’t let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, and trust also in Me. 2 There is more than enough room in My Father’s home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am.

John 14:4-5 (NLT) “And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said.  “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

John 14:6 (NLT) “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6 (NLT) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

1.  Jesus said, “I am the way”

“There’s nothing worse than feeling lost, except perhaps the sneaking feeling that you’re on the wrong path.”

Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV) There is a way [path] that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Literal:  “a road, path, or journey.”

Metaphorical:  “a manner of life—a way of thinking, living, deciding.”

Acts 4:12 (NLT) There is salvation in no one else!  God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.

To follow Jesus is to imitate “the way” He…

  • walked in love (Eph. 5:2)

  • forgave others (Mt. 6:14)

  • gave generously

  • served humbly (Jn. 13:14-15)

  • carried His cross, we carry ours daily (Lk. 9:23)

  • obeyed the Father (Jn. 14:10)

“Does this align with the character, teaching, and the way of Jesus?”

John 8:12 (NLT) Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world.  If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Proverbs 12:28 (ESV) In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death.

“The way of God is not a rule to be kept, but a Person to be trusted.”  —Oswald Chambers

2.  Jesus said, “I am the truth”

John 20:25 (NLT) “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in His hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in His side.”

  • Truth isn’t just intellectual correctness.

  • Truth isn’t a set of facts.

  • The truth isn’t even a principle to be known.

  • Truth is a person, and His name is Jesus.

“The truth is not merely something to be believed, but a Person to be known.”

—John Wesley

What does it mean to walk in the Truth (Jesus)?

  • He has the final word on what’s real, what’s right, and what ultimately matters.

  • He has the final word on our thoughts, convictions, identity, and beliefs.

  • He anchors us in a shaky world.

  • He guards our hearts from fear and deception.

  • He guides us in purity, integrity, and wisdom.

  • He sets us free from sin, shame, and confusion.

3 John 1:4 (NIV) I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

3.  Jesus said, “I am the life”

Eternal life is not only endless life but a quality of life that Jesus embodies and invites us into today.”  —Dallas Willard

John 10:10 (NKJV) I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

  • Peace in the middle of chaos (Phil. 4:7)

  • Joy, even when trials come (Js. 1:2)

  • Strength to keep going (Is. 40:31)

  • Produce lasting fruit (Gal. 5:22-23)

Psalm 16:11 (NIV) You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.
