Uncommon, Part 2

1 John 5:7 [NKJV], For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

Some Christians really struggle to describe...

  • Who the Holy Spirit is

  • Our relationship with Him

  • His relevance to our daily lives

A lack of understanding leads to confusion and division in the Body of Christ.

Acts 13:1-3 [NIV],Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers:  Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen(who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

Acts 14:26-27 [AMP],...they sailed back to Antioch... 27 Arriving there, they gathered the church together and began to report [in great detail] everything that God had done with them and how He had opened to the Gentiles a door of faith...

Acts 15:1-3 [TPT],While Paul and Barnabas were in Antioch, some false teachers came from Judea to trouble the believers.  They taught, "Unless you are circumcised, as the law of Moses requires, you cannot be saved." 2 This sparked a fierce argument between the false teachers and Paul and Barnabas.  So the church appointed a delegation of believers, including Paul and Barnabas, to go to Jerusalem to meet with the apostles and elders of the church and resolve this issue. 3 So the church sent them on their way.

Acts 15:4-6 [MSG],When they got to Jerusalem, Paul and Barnabas were graciously received by the whole church, including the apostles and leaders. They reported on their recent journey and how God had used them to open things up to the outsiders.  Some Pharisees stood up to say their piece. They had become believers, but continued to hold to the hard party line of the Pharisees.  "You have to circumcise the pagan converts," they said. "You must make them keep the Law of Moses."  The apostles and leaders called a special meeting to consider the matter.  The arguments went on and on, back and forth, getting more and more heated.

Acts 15:28 [NKJV], For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us...

The Holy Spirit restored unity back into their hearts, thus unifying the church...keeping them from being divided.

Ephesians 4:2-3 [NKJV],with all lowliness and gentleness with long suffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

"How did we get from the place of the Holy Spirit unifying us to one who divides us?"

"The Holy Spirit inside of me will never disagree with the Holy Spirit who lives inside of you."

We have lost our sensitivity to the Spirit.

Ephesians 4:30-32 [NKJV],"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God... 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor [loud quarreling]and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 5:1-2 [NKJV],Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love...

Galatians 5:16 [NLT],So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.

How could we adjust our lives to the Holy Spirit?

Matthew 3:16 [TPT],And as Jesus rose up out of the water, the heavenly realm opened up over Him and He saw the Holy Spirit descend out of the heavens and rest upon Him in the form of a dove.

When the Holy Spirit is ungrieved in our lives we can't help but to display His personality to everyone around us.

Galatians 5:22-23 [NLT],But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.
