Passing Through

Genesis 11:31-32 (AMP/NLT) One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai and his grandson Lot and they moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. They were headed to the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32 And Terah lived 205 years; and Terah died in Haran.

Genesis 11:31, One day Terah took [led] his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai and his grandson Lot and they MOVED...

Genesis 11:31, …and they moved AWAY from Ur of the Chaldeans…

  • Ur of Chaldeans represents "confusion, rebellion, bondage, and sin."

Genesis 11:31, They were HEADED for the land of Canaan…

  • The land of Canaan represents, "inheritance, provision, abundance, and blessing."

Genesis 11:31, …but WHEN they came to Haran...

Haran means; “parched.“

What do so many of us do when we encounter a Haran?

Genesis 11:31, …but when they came to Haran, they SETTLED there.

“We become content with eating crumbs from the King’s table, like we are some kind

of peasant.  When the truth is, Jesus shed His ROYAL BLOOD so that we could have

the right to sit at the table as sons and daughters of the Most High God.”

Genesis 11:32, And Terah lived 205 years; and Terah DIED in Haran.

Terah means, "delay."

Delay"to put off to a later time, postpone, to put off action, to procrastinate, to impede the process or progress of.”

Are you being delayed today?

1. God Ordained

  • The dry places are just a PART of the journey…they are not the journey itself.

Hebrews 5:8 (NLT) Even though Jesus was God’s Son, He LEARNED obedience from the things He suffered.

Does God allow us to go through dry seasons for His purpose and our benefit?

Luke 4:1 (NKJV) Then Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit, into the wilderness…

Luke 4:14 (NKJV) Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit...

Are you willing to walk through a desert to make it to your promise land?

2.  Self-Inflicted

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) Now the Lord had said to Abram:  “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.”

Acts 7:2-4 (NKJV) And he said, "Brethren and fathers, listen:  The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, BEFORE he dwelt in Haran, 3 and said to him, 'Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.' 4 "Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran.  And from there, WHEN his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.”

  • Not until our delays are rendered lifeless, will there be any real forward movement in our lives.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) Now the Lord had said to Abram:  "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you."

Genesis 12:4 (NKJV) So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him.

Genesis 13:14 (NKJV) And the Lord said to Abram, AFTER Lot had separated from him:  "Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are--northward, southward, eastward, and westward…”
