Building A Culture Of Honor: by Pastor Dusty Hammock
”Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.“. 1 Peter 3:7-8 NIV
Ephesians 6:1–3
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’”
Proverbs 1:8–9
“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”
Colossians 3:20
“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”
Ephesians 6:4
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Colossians 3:21
“Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”
Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
”Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.“
Romans 13:1 NIV
I. UNITY OF MIND DOES NOT MEAN THE SAME PERSPECTIVE
Finally, all of you, be like-minded 1 Peter 3:8
Correction without dignity produces resistance. And at the same time if we withhold correction, will produce ungrateful children.
II. HONOR IS MUTUAL — NOT ONE DIRECTIONAL
Finally, … be sympathetic, love one another…1 Peter 3:7-8 NIV
Honor flows up through obedience
and down through responsibility.
III. LOVE LISTENS BEFORE IT SPEAKS
Finally, … be compassionate and humble.“. 1 Peter 3:7-8 NIV
Honor sounds like:
“Help me understand.”
“Can I share how I see this?”
“I know you care about me.”
