Rewire Your Brain

Philippians 3:13, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind AND reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”

As we grow, Neurological Pathways are created in our brains.

Thought  → Emotion  → Behavior

"Without changing our thinking, our 'emotional' and 'behavioral' histories are bound to repeat themselves."

Q—What happens when we choose to walk in a different direction?

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind.  To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.
— Henry David Thoreau

Romans 12:2 [NLT], “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. “

Q—How does God change our Neurological Pathways?

Five Steps to Developing Your Mind

1.  Abide in the Word

John 8:31-32 [ESV], "If you abide in My word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Abide: "to remain, stay continually, don't depart."

You get faith by studying the Word.  Study that Word until something in you ‘knows that you know’ and that you do not just hope that you know.
— Carrie Judd Montgomery

2.  Believe the Word

2 Timothy 3:16 [MSG], ”Every part of Scripture is God-breathed...”

Hebrews 4:2 [TPT], “For we have heard the good news of deliverance just as they did, yet they didn't join their faith with the Word, what they heard didn't affect them deeply, for they doubted.”

3.  Meditate on the Word

Meditation:  "rehearsing God's Word in our minds."

Joshua 1:8 [NLT], “Study this Book of Instruction continually.  Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it.  Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

4.  Declare the Word

Romans 10:17 [NASB], “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

5.  Apply the Word

James 1:22-25 [NLT], “But don't just listen to God's word.  You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”

Hebrews 12:12-13 [TPT], “So be made strong even in your weakness by lifting up your tired hands in prayer and worship.  And strengthen your weak knees, 13 for as you keep walking forward on God's paths all your stumbling ways will be divinely healed!”
